Dr. Derek Cook N.D.
Personal Journey
Dr. Cook’s passion for naturopathic medicine evolved from his own health experiences. In 2002, suffering from severe and debilitating seasonal allergies for some years, he began searching for a solution. After a few years of visiting various health care practitioners without success, frustration grew. It was not until he came across naturopathic medicine that a solution was found. The naturopathic doctor not only treated him but empowered him through education, revealing how his actions were cultivating a terrain in the body for illness. Once understood, it became apparent what was needed for health to return. After a few treatments, symptoms of the illness had decreased by 80-90% and the following year all symptoms had completely disappeared.
Special Focus
Dr. Cook sees a wide variety of patients because he specializes in supporting the natural healing ability of the body. However, most of his practice focuses on these areas: Stress, burnout, fatigue, anxiety, hormones (adrenal and others), headaches, digestion (SIBO, food sensitivities, IBS, crohns, ulcerative colitis, constipation, diarrhea, etc), pediatrics, lyme disease and cancer.
Philosophy
At the time, along with his health problems, his work experiences challenged him to rethink his philosophy regarding health and healing. Working five years as a chemist in Research & Development for a pharmaceutical company allowed him a unique insight into the business of health. Realizing that his personal philosophy was evolving, he understood the need to change to a profession that would honour those new beliefs.
By cultivating the conditions for healing, most illnesses can be addressed by adhering to fundamentals of nature – food, water, sleep, exercise and spiritual well-being. It is never too late to begin preventing illnesses to change its course back to health.
To support healing, Dr. Cook utilizes Naturopathic medicine with Auricular medicine. Auricular is a bioenergetic assessment technique that complements conventional diagnostic techniques such as lab tests to identify and treat the root causes of disease. Auricular medicine uses signals from the client’s pulse called the VAS (Vascular Autonomic Signal) to identify imbalances, which block self-healing.
Qualifications Dr. Cook obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (double major in biology and chemistry) from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1998. In 2007, he graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. The following year, he furthered his skills by specializing in Auricular Medicine (ear acupuncture) under the tutelage and mentorship of Dr. Mikhael Adams and Dr. Allison Adams.
Dr. Cook also taught anatomy, physiology, immunology and nutrition at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Calgary for a number of years. He is also a current member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) and of the College of Naturopathic Doctors Alberta (CNDA).

Fiona McDevitt
Physiotherapist MCPA MAPA MISCP MCORU Craniosacral Therapist CST-T Certified Lymphedema Therapist (Vodder) MLD Life Coaching & EAL -Equine Assisted Learning EAL Facilitator Pink Ribbon Programme Certified PRP Certified
Fiona is an Irish physiotherapist of 29 years’ experience who has travelled extensively including Australia and Canada. Over the years Fiona has gained a great appreciation of the human body and its capacity for healing. This has led to the development of her motto – “Balance your Body, Balance your Health”. Connecting to the patient through the fascia, which is the membrane surrounding every structure in the body, makes Craniosacral Therapy her main passion, its gentle touch leading to profound effects on the fascia and nervous system. This system manages and moderates our whole being, emotionally and physically. Work experience, Life Coaching and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) qualifications provide Fiona with great skills in supporting people through deep emotional issues such as grief/anxiety/stress/surgeries/illnesses/trauma etc. By offering the body a safe space to heal and repair, Fiona supports clients to discover the root cause of their persistent issues or pain and finds gentle ways to work through it with them. Of special interest to Fiona is working with Mums and Babies (and Dad’s when they can attend). The combination of Craniosacral and Physiotherapy skills really supports parents and babies during pregnancy and those tricky first few months. If a baby is in any way unsettled, feeding, sleeping, crying issues, Tongue Tie or Torticollis, then Craniosacral Therapy really helps. Involving the parents in the treatment empowers them as the they adjust to caring for their new-born baby. Fiona’s physiotherapy knowledge benefits the parents by helping with feeding, posture, pain or stiffness, and demonstrating stretches for Baby. Physiotherapy enhanced her interest in Posture and then bra-fitting for ladies due to the many effects a poor fit has on the woman’s neck and shoulders, including new Mums. In 2018, Fiona added Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) to her skillset (Vodder Training). This journey into the Lymph system compliments the Craniosacral System by completing the understanding of the cycle of fluid in the body. We are 90% water, so what better way to help the body heal than balancing the fluid systems.
Through the Lymph work Fiona discovered her physiotherapy skills also came to the fore as it helps reduce pain and stiffness, increases range of motion and improves function for those affected by Cancer. This led her to train in the Pink Ribbon Programme, a rehabilitation exercise regime, and classes, for those after Breast Cancer Surgery. However, it is suitable for anyone with limited range of movement and function of the shoulder and arm. An interest in those with disability led her to being the physiotherapist for the first ever Mixed Ability Rugby Team in Ireland. The team won the Mixed Ability Rugby World Cup! This wonderful experience has given her great insights into all levels of disability and what is possible given the right environment or circumstances. It also underlined the fact that all humans have their own unique talents and gifts.
Fiona enjoys working in a team environment. While celebrating each person’s own unique skill set, the knowledge shared with colleagues and clients benefits the clients as they have access to an array of complementing therapies and therapists. When not at work, Fiona enjoys exploring her passion for horses, the outdoors and rugby and always enjoys spending time with friends and family.
