Personal Journey

Dr. Cook’s passion for naturopathic medicine evolved from his own health experiences. In 2002, suffering from severe and debilitating seasonal allergies for some years, he began searching for a solution. After a few years of visiting various health care practitioners without success, frustration grew. It was not until he came across naturopathic medicine that a solution was found. The naturopathic doctor not only treated him but empowered him through education, revealing how his actions were cultivating a terrain in the body for illness. Once understood, it became apparent what was needed for health to return. After a few treatments, symptoms of the illness had decreased by 80-90% and the following year all symptoms had completely disappeared.

Special Focus

Dr. Cook sees a wide variety of patients because he specializes in supporting the natural healing ability of the body. However, most of his practice focuses on these areas: Stress, burnout, fatigue, anxiety, hormones (adrenal and others), headaches, digestion (SIBO, food sensitivities, IBS, crohns, ulcerative colitis, constipation, diarrhea, etc), pediatrics, lyme disease and cancer.

Philosophy

At the time, along with his health problems, his work experiences challenged him to rethink his philosophy regarding health and healing. Working five years as a chemist in Research & Development for a pharmaceutical company allowed him a unique insight into the business of health. Realizing that his personal philosophy was evolving, he understood the need to change to a profession that would honour those new beliefs.

By cultivating the conditions for healing, most illnesses can be addressed by adhering to fundamentals of nature – food, water, sleep, exercise and spiritual well-being. It is never too late to begin preventing illnesses to change its course back to health.

To support healing, Dr. Cook utilizes Naturopathic medicine with Auricular medicine. Auricular is a bioenergetic assessment technique that complements conventional diagnostic techniques such as lab tests to identify and treat the root causes of disease. Auricular medicine uses signals from the client’s pulse called the VAS (Vascular Autonomic Signal) to identify imbalances, which block self-healing.

Qualifications Dr. Cook obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (double major in biology and chemistry) from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1998. In 2007, he graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. The following year, he furthered his skills by specializing in Auricular Medicine (ear acupuncture) under the tutelage and mentorship of Dr. Mikhael Adams and Dr. Allison Adams.

Dr. Cook also taught anatomy, physiology, immunology and nutrition at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Calgary for a number of years. He is also a current member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) and of the College of Naturopathic Doctors Alberta (CNDA).
